A showcase of performances from the Linbury Studio Theatre of the Royal Opera House. 'Firsts is an exciting mix of contemporary dance, theatre and music performed by the UK s most dynamic emerging artists. A View From Down Here - ‘The process began with reading children's letters. We were intrigued, horrified and amused by the effect that the adult world has on the young generation.' Experience a vast and quickly changing range of human emotions in this exhilarating piece from Collect and Then. ImReadyWhenUAre - Four unassuming men amble across the stage to the familiar voice of Louis Armstrong. Then they pace menacingly in unison, breaking into a dizzying display of head spins, handstands and footwork. UK break dance champions Bad Taste Cru bring their breathtaking dance to the Linbury with imreadywhenuare, in which choreographer Simon Williams flips hip-hop on its head. The Making of Doubt - The Making of Doubt takes the human doll as an emblem of representation and places it within the real and impossible condition of its words and actions. How authentic does something have to seem in order for us to construct a system of belief around it; how far does one have to go? The Second Death of Caspar Helendale - Come to the strangest funeral you've ever attended. The Second Life avatar Caspar Helendale invites you to attend his death; a funeral service held simultaneously in the real and virtual worlds. He has been exploring mortality since he was ? rst created, and in his last 20 minutes of existence he will share his thoughts with collected mourners. He will be accompanied by his widow-to-be, Trixiebelle Landar; his Requiem will be performed live and streamed back into the virtual world over the course of the service. Via live music and a giant projection screen, the theatre audience will join in the mourning, as the real and virtual worlds collide and Caspar's light is forever extinguished.
