Sasha Waltz's stunning adaptation of Purcell's classic opera Dido and Aeneas brings dance and opera together in a remarkable work featuring over forty dancers, singers and musicians. A leading light in German tanztheater, Waltz is celebrated for her striking, visually arresting choreography. This breathtaking show - set to Purcell's magnificent score, the oldest known English opera - begins with a splash as the dancers plunge into a vast transparent water tank to perform an exquisite underwater dance. For this unique meeting of dance and opera, Waltz has cast both a singer and a dancer in each role, developing the movement of both to create truly unified duets of movement and voice.
