Chi Chi Bunichi - Ladino folksong meets contemporary choreography in a nomadic journey through Sarajevo to Jerusalem; Dalston via Famagusta. Unfurled in a domestic urban gathering, Chi Chi Bunichi is a new kind of performance mixing traditional music and songs, spoken words and storytelling, dance. Chi Chi Bunichi is an intimate dance with harmonium, ukulele, recorded and live voices celebrating stories of diaspora, displacement, dollars and desire. Come fall into the arms of real people... Chi Chi Bunichi takes as its starting point Sephardi song, a form that has journeyed from Spain to the Ottoman Empire, the Balkans and Morocco and survived for 500 years. Ladino is based on medieval Spanish and is a dying language surviving now in romansas and cantigas. This dying, itinerant form of song is providing the inspiration for live contemporary narratives; in a form that is on the edges of physical theatre, event and live performance.
