Birmingham Royal Ballet - Solitaire/Pineapple Poll/Take Five archiveIn Solitaire, our heroine is an outsider who finds it hard to find acceptance and so dances alone, rejoicing in her solitude. This moving celebration of the power of one is an early work by Kenneth MacMillan who was the principal choreographer for the Royal Ballet Companies for many years. Pineapple Poll tells the tale of a feisty lass who is in love with the swashbuckling Captain Belaye of the HMS Hot Cross Bun, and so spurns the attentions of Jasper, potboy of the local inn. Alas Captain Belaye is secretly engaged to Blanche. When Belaye recalls his crew on board Poll, disguising herself as a sailor, determinedly follows. The programme is completed by Take Five, a new work created by BRB Director David Bintley, to Dave Brubeck's iconic music. Birmingham Royal Ballet website.
