Ballets Russes - Encounters is an exciting partnership project between Sadler’s Wells and English National Ballet. This collaborative performance project brings together Sadler’s Wells associate artists, visiting companies and English National Ballet’s artists to celebrate the centenary of the Ballets Russes. Ballets Russes - Encounters features English National Ballet’s Faun(e), by David Dawson, a reimagining of Nijinsky’s L’apres-midi d’un Faune featured in the 2009 production Ballets Russes. The evening will also include associate artist Russell Maliphant’s Afterlight which was applauded by critics and audiences alike when it premiered at Sadler’s Wells as part of In the Spirit of Diaghilev in 2009. Sadler's Wells Resident company Wayne McGregor ¦ Random Dance will also perform a piece from their repertoire. Ballets Russes - Encounters will also feature new work created by the professional companies for five community groups; Sadler's Wells acclaimed residents the Company of Elders, recently celebrated by BBC1's Imagine arts documentary plus Tiffin Boys Youth Dance Company, Barking Abbey School, Copthall School, and Gable Hall School. The evening contains a selection of music specially composed by students from Kensington and Chelsea and performed by members of English National Ballet’s Orchestra.
