Renjith Babu and Neha Mondal Chakravarty are part of new generation of classical Indian dance, pushing the borders of bharatnatyam and elevating the art of the jugalbandi (duet). In this special duet, the classical trained soloist artists Renjith and Neha, alumnies of the renowned Kalakshetra, deliver classical bharatanatyam with its emphasis on straight lines and precise geometry, and a deep spiritual experience. Opening the dance programme of Darbar Festival 2018, curated Sadler's Wells Associate Artist Akram Khan, this exciting duo perform an unusual new work by the bharatanatyam and contemporary dance artist Mavin Khoo in collaboration with vocalist Vishnudev Namboothiri. Accompanied by a live orchestra, the pair explore the balance between creation and destruction, and the paired forces of Shiva and Kali.
