Details
The Sixteen are one of the world's leading choral groups with a reputation that stretches from Tokyo to Rio. It concentrates on the heritage of early English polyphony, masterpieces of the Renaissance and Baroque, and a diversity of twentieth century choral work. The choir is complemented for larger scale works by its orchestra, The Symphony of Harmony and Invention. Music dedicated to the Virgin Mary underpins the foundations of Western classical music - from simple hymns of praise to grand Magnificat settings. This wide-ranging programme of pieces including works from Grieg, Rizza, Mendelssohn and Lassus takes the audience on a musical and spiritual journey charting the course of Marian music over five centuries. The programme is based on the best-selling Universal CD, A Mother's Love.
