The Dolly Parton Story archiveSexagenarian Dolly Rebecca Parton was born in Sevierville Tennessee. The fourth of twelve children, Dolly describes her family circumstances as ‘dirt poor , raised in a one-room cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains. She began performing as a child singing on local radio and television programmes in East Tennessee and by the age of thirteen she was recording on a small record label and appearing at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. These humble beginnings are the stuff of storyteller s dreams and no one can tell Dolly s story better than Mandy Winters. Mandy is a very successful country music recording artiste in her own right, having toured Britain and Europe extensively, conquering the Czech Republic with two sell out tours. In addition, Mandy has developed the unique talent of yodelling, no surprise given that her father was Ronnie Winters, Columbia Records ‘Yodelling Cowboy from the 1950s-and-60s. Dolly s fascinating tale scaling the dizzy heights of the country music and pop charts as well as her appearance in feature films such as Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Steel Magnolias and Nine to Five will unfold as Mandy recreates the hopes, dreams and setbacks of Miss Parton s dramatic life. Mandy will be singing many of Dolly s greatest hits in this unmissable show.
