Details
The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace was a special Millennium commission from the Royal Armouries in Leeds and is the latest in a six centuries old tradition of 'Armed Man' masses, which take the 15th century French song L'Homme Arme as their starting point. Large-scale in both scope and size, The Armed Man is a profoundly moving yet very accessible work, which uses the most traditional of musical forms to explore an all too contemporary subject: the search for peace in a hostile world. The powerful imagery of words taken from across nations and centuries for Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace, aptly reflects current world events. The work runs through a broad range of emotions leaving the listener with a sense of awe. It is complemented by Verdi's spectacular and original setting, for double choir, of the Te Deum - a work so close to his heart that he decreed the score should be buried with him.
