Details

Siem's songs traverse a range of musical genres including jazz, folk, choral, classical and experimental. Her work combines the eerie intimacy of singer/songwriters such as Tom Waits, Joanna Newsom and Bjork with the detailed instrumental and timbral experiments of contemporary chamber music writing by composers such as Gyorgy Kurtag, Claude Vivier, Louis Andriessen, and Tristan Murail. Sasha Siem, contemporary singer, songwriter, composer and performer, brings a collection of twelve of her own songs in a staged song cycle entitled Most of the Boys to the Linbury Studio Theatre at the Royal Opera House. Directed by Ted Huffman and Zack Winokur, Most of the Boys combines raw and playful lyrics with intricately crafted accompaniments to create a unique and mysterious sound world. Each song shares the same female protagonist but explores different themes including desire, restriction and lost love. It is designed by Samal Blak with lighting design by Marcus Doshi.
