Details
The newly appointed Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Charles Dutoit leads the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in three very different masterworks from the Russian repertoire. Stravinsky's remarkable 'sounding together' of wind and brass dates from 1920, and is inscribed to the memory of Claude Debussy, who had died two years earlier. This classic of Stravinskyan 'cool' is followed by Tchaikovsky's dazzling Violin Concerto. Scheherazade, a series of musical tales drawn from The Arabian Nights, remains Rimsky-Korsakov's best-loved work.
