Details
In Latin with English titles. When, in the spring of 1791, Mozart accepted an anonymous commission for a Requiem Mass, he had no way of knowing that this was to be the last music he would ever write. By the end of the year he was dead, not yet 36 years old, the Requiem left unfinished. What he bequeathed the world is a work that confronts our mortality in music of unearthly beauty. In Opera North's latest collaboration with Phoenix Dance Theatre, Dane Hurst (West Side Story Symphonic Dances) directs and choreographs a new version of the Requiem alongside a new work created with guest artists from South Africa. In this cross-cultural production, Phoenix and performing artists from South Africa will join forces with the Chorus and Orchestra of Opera North conducted by Garry Walker in a unique response to the grief experienced by so many around the world during the pandemic.
