Proms in the Park archiveMusicals star and all round entertainer John is currently on TV screens hosting Tonight's the Night on BBC One, as well as recently guesting as a villain in the hit US series Desperate Housewives. Known the world over as Captain Jack in Torchwood and Doctor Who, John started his career as a leading man in West End musicals, starring alongside Elaine Paige in Anything Goes, and has gone on to further success in productions ranging from Chicago, the Phantom of the Opera and Miss Saigon to Love's Labours Lost, Aladdin and A Few Good Men. John Barrownman performs at Proms in the Park, Salford. John will be joined on stage at this fantastic event, by special guests mezzo soprano Juliette Pochin and Salford opera sensation Jon Christos, following their fabulous performances at last year's show . Thousands of music lovers will bring picnics, flags and their finest singing voices to fill Salford's beautiful and historic Buile Hill Park for an unforgettable evening of popular tunes and rousing classics. Led by the BBC Philharmonic, the night is sure to conclude with a bang with a spectacular firework display lighting up the city's skies. There will be a real sense of celebration as the BBC Philharmonic prepares to move to its brand new home at MediaCityUK Salford in Spring 2011, joining the rest of BBC North at the BBC's new regional hub.
