Details
Part of the BBC Proms. 'Stress', 'Love', 'Play', 'Now!'. The movement titles of Parry's last symphony hint at hidden autobiographical significance, and celebrate a composer rarely noticed beyond the Last Night (see also Prom 31 and Prom 68). It is paired with the most famous autobiographical symphony of all, Tchaikovsky's heroic attempt to outrun and finally confront despair. At the centre of the BBC Philharmonic's first appearance this season is the early, Chopin-tinged piano concerto by another great Russian (whose works we feature this season), with much-admired Argentinian soloist Nelson Goerner. Finish time: approx. 21:45
