Details
Part of the BBC Proms. Fast-rising young Ukrainian maestro Kirill Karabits makes his Proms debut as the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra's new Principal Conductor. The brilliant Lithuanian-born violinist Julian Rachlin returns to the Proms to play the tenderly lyrical, extrovertly virtuosic concerto by Tchaikovsky, to whose music and memory Stravinsky paid tribute in his Hans Christian Andersen-inspired ballet, The Fairy's Kiss. By contrast, Khachaturian's colourful Soviet-era ballet Spartacus celebrates the Thracian gladiator whose rebel slave army almost defeated the might of Rome. Approx. finish time: 21:50
