Details
Part of the BBC Proms. The London Sinfonietta's Late Night Prom reunites the orchestra with its founder-conductor David Atherton. The two Stravinsky works were premiered in Venice during the 1950s and share the haunting, distilled musical language that the ever-evolving composer adopted in later years. Threni, receiving its first Proms performance, sets the Lamentations of Jeremiah in a quirky and intensely spiritual style, while Stravinsky's recasting of Bach's variations on the Christmas hymn 'Vom Himmel hoch' embellishes them in ever-changing instrumental colours. The original variations for organ open the programme. Finish time: approx. 23:10
