Part of the BBC Proms. Echoing the waltzes of last month's Viennese Night (Prom 12), tonight's Prom ends with a trio of Ravel pieces in which an evocative waterscape is framed by contrasting evocations of the waltz - one celebrating Vienna's heyday, the other casting a wry backwards glance over its decline. Two contrasting piano concertos - a first by George Benjamin (50 this year) and Mozart's last - display the wide-ranging talents of pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard, a friend and colleague of Benjamin since they met as students of Olivier Messiaen in Paris. Given its UK premiere at last year's Aldeburgh Festival, where Aimard is Artistic Director, Duet is a search for sounds that orchestra and piano can share. Finish time: approx. 21:35
