Details
Part of the BBC Proms. 'Behold, the sea itself...' Home to Sirens and storms, crashing waves and calming swells, the sea is at the centre of this atmospheric programme from Andrew Manze, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and joint BBC choruses. Vaughan Williams' expansive A Sea Symphony, with its arresting choral opening, is prefaced by sea pictures from two neglected 20th-century women composers now enjoying a revival. There's a filmic energy and vividness to Doreen Carwithen's Bishop Rock overture, while Grace Williams' Sea Sketches, inspired by her family home on the Welsh coast, captures the sea's vivacity and mercurial mood swings.
