Details
Part of the BBC Proms. Continuing our Schumann symphony cycle in the bicentenary of the composer's birth, the Third is the most pictorial, evoking by turns a beer garden by the Rhine and the Gothic magnificence of Cologne Cathedral. A century later came Bernd Alois Zimmermann's witty Rhine-Church Festival Dances, celebrating the same German region. Stockhausen's festive overture from 1977 opens the programme, which also features a trio of recent British works. Finish time: approx. 22:05
