Details
Each year, 40 singers from across the world are selected to compete in front of an international jury of leading opera professionals. Since its founding in 1993, the competition has helped discover and promote artists of the calibre of Angel Blue, Joseph Calleja, Jose Cura, Joyce DiDonato, Carmen Giannattasio, Ana Maria Martinez, Ailyn Perez, Erwin Schrott, Nina Stemme, Rolando Villazon and Sonya Yoncheva. The first British winner is contralto Claudia Huckle, who was awarded the 2013 Birgit Nilsson Prize. The final of Placido Domingo's international singing competition comes to the Royal Opera House for the first time, in an extravaganza of operatic song.
