Details
Stravinsky's originality leaps out from every bar in these two works. The Symphony of Psalms is unique in approach, using chorus and orchestra in equal footing. Unusually, the violins and violas are absent, as are the clarinets, although a large wind section and piano are employed to stirring effect. Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet suites are amongst the most popular of all orchestral suites: full of dramatic intensity and the composer's characteristic romantic, melodic style.
