Details
One of the world's finest chamber orchestras, founded in 1949. Principle Guest Conductor James Galway. Haydn's penultimate symphony was written on a grand scale for his final series of London concerts in 1795. Its imposing opening contains the drumroll which gives the symphony its name. Strauss' Oboe Concerto is one of his most beautiful late works, and its three movements have been described as 'almost perfect in form and execution.' Mozart's symphony began life as a serenade, and its dashing first movement, warm slow movement and gracious minuet are capped by a brilliant 'perpetual motion' finale.
