Details
A concert featuring Lola Perrin, hailed as 'a feminine Steve Reich' (Radio France), in an exploration of new collaborations. Tonight's programme begins with solo piano, moving on to a piano duet setting jazz improvisation against minimalist patterns, and the combining of acoustic and electronics with narration. The second half presents Maxwell and Hashim's Going East, a 45-minute feast of film and piano accompaniment with guest vocalist Natacha Atlas that takes us from London's East End to Asia in a touching portrait of struggle and humanity. 'Lola Perrin's inspirations seem to lie somewhere between the ecstasies of Keith Jarrett's early 70s solo improvisations and the delicate proto-minimalism of Cage's "In a Landscape": even Philip Glass' solo piano works come to mind.'
