Set in Latin and following the structure of the standard six-movement mass, the mood of this 40-minute uplifting and innovative work is one of celebration, and combines the powerful forces of choir, soprano soloist and fourteen-man jazz band in a weave of 12 bar blues and up-beat grooves. Will Todd's love of a wide range of Jazz music is reflected in the setting - from ballad to gospel and beyond in a hybrid style that might be described as 'religious doctrine meets funk!' Accompanying Will Todd's Jazz Mass will be another contemporary jazz work 'songs from the cage' by Roland Perrin. Also commissioned by the Hertfordshire Chorus, it received its world premiere in 2002. The Blue Planet Orchestra will play once again, this time with composer Roland Perrin at the piano.
