The Halle Orchestra returns to Hull with an evening of Romantic music, opening with a colourful symphonic poem which was inspired by the classical Greek story of the daughters of Aeolus, keeper of the winds. Composed alongside his operatic masterpiece Tristan and Isolde, Wagner's passionate Wesendonck Lieder is a collection of five love songs, performed here by Jennifer Johnston. Tchaikovsky's mighty Sixth Symphony was his final symphonic manuscript. It encapsulates the composer's emotional power and was a work Tchaikovsky himself regarded as the best thing he had ever composed. Halle Orchestra website.
