Details
Bruckner’s Ninth and last symphony is also his darkest and most gripping work, full of emotional power and thunderous energy. It was left unfinished at Bruckner’s death and the slow movement, with which it ends, closes in a mood of Olympian calm and serenity - a mood shared by Richard Strauss’ Four Last Songs in which he bid farewell to the world. Conducted by Jac van Steen, this promises to be an especially moving occasion.
