Details
Fa?ade was heard in its earliest version in 1923 with the poet of its extraordinary texts, Edith Sitwell, as the narrator. Short and highly contrasted numbers bring together off-beat musical style and verbal rhythm and imagery - the 'Popular Song' and 'Polka' have become particular well-known favourites. A grand opening night to the season brings Walton's widow Susana and well-known broadcaster Richard Baker to recite the ever-popular entertainment
Facade with instrumentalists from the prestigious Purcell School in Bushey. Programme also includes Adam Gorb's Betjeman settings Hymns Uproarious and two new works.
