A stunning virtuoso performance on the double bass bagged Toby Hughes the title of 2013 Chandos Young Musician. He showcases his skills in oscar-winner Nino Rota's fiendishly difficult double bass concerto. Rota was best known for writing the oscar-winning title music to The Godfather. The gravitas of Strauss' tone poem Tod und Verkl?rung (Death and Transfiguration) is offset by Rachmaninov's magnificent 2nd Symphony, which never loses its freshness, vitality and ravishing melodic beauty.
