Details
Britten Sinfonia return after their magnificent concert last year to present an exciting new oboe concerto, premiered earlier in the week by the renowned composer James MacMillan, who we are fortunate to have as the evening's conductor. Nick Daniels, the soloist for whom it was written, has developed a long and distinguished career as one of the foremost exponents of the oboe. The rest of the concert by this 35 strong orchestra features Shostakovich's reflective Chamber Symphony, a powerful reaction to the 1945 bombing of Dresden and finishes with Mozart's fabulous Symphony No. 40.
