Paul Lacey's Back To Basie Orchestra were voted Best Big Band at the British Jazz Awards in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009. Back to Basie is Britain's primary Count Basie tribute orchestra, directed by trumpet player Paul Lacey and featuring top session musicians and jazz soloists dedicated to playing the music of Count Basie's second great orchestra of the 1950s and 1960s. Voted Number One UK big band in the British Jazz Awards, 2005 and 2006 and 2008. Endorsed by the Count Basie Society International The UK's Number One big band, Paul Lacey's Back to Basie Orchestra, reproduces the music of Count Basie with uncanny accuracy. Featured in the programme will be items from the landmark album The Atomic Mr Basie, that set Bill Basie's name alongside Sammy Davis Jnr, Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Eckstein, Sarah Vaughan, and most importantly Frank Sinatra. The show also includes The Kid from Redbank, Splanky, Corner Pocket, Flight of the Foo Birds and a host of other Basie hits. Back to Basie's top London session men and jazz soloists capture those dynamics previously only mastered by the Count Basie Orchestra. An added bonus is well-known singer Jacqui Hicks recalling some of the classic Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie classics.
