Details
From the spectacular dawn opening through to its wild and abandoned closing pages, there are few pieces to match Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe for sheer beauty of sensual orchestral sound. Written for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, Ravel created an Arcadian dreamworld, populated by nymphs and shepherds and the story of Daphnis, Chloe and the god, Pan. This all-French programme, conducted by Thierry Fischer, includes the choral version of Faure's Pavane and Henri Dutilleux's L'arbre des songes in celebration of the composer's 95th birthday.
