After 17 years of cultural repression, Ethiopian music is undergoing a profound renaissance. At the forefront of this revival is Abyssinia Infinite, a cross-cultural collaboration between legendary producer Bill Laswell and Ethiopian's hottest new vocal revelation Gigi. Like her one time mentor Aster Aweke, Gigi is making a huge impact on the music of her homeland, earning the extraordinary epithet 'Gift of God' for her mellifluous melodies and shimmering desert invocations.
