Details
An evening of comedy and stand-up poetry to celebrate the 25th year of serving the residents of Southwark. Primary care Counsellors and Psychotherapists see about 4,000 patients a year. Evidence shows that it is not only a popular service but is clinically effective in reducing distressing symptoms. Counselling is unique in mental health in that it does not label the individual as mentally ill, but works with that person to help them explore their lives and make changes they see as important. Counselling relies on the relationship between client and therapist to create a space for reflection. Southwark residents experience a complex group of needs which often include mental distress, physical difficulties, housing problems, debt and marginalistaion. The service proudly works closely with GPs, PCT, SLAM and the voluntary sector to develop a high quality, low cost counselling service for people who would otherwise be unable to find or access help. During the last 25 years the service has offered psychological help to over 50,000 people, most of whom have found the experience a life changing one.
