Details

The Insect Circus began with a small painting by Suffolk artist Mark Copeland of a travelling insect circus menagerie. Two years later the idea had grown into The Grand Travelling Insect Museum and Peep-Show Mechanical Menagerie. Housed in a highly decorated vintage Bedford TK Beetlebox lorry, the Insect Circus Museum is a collection of pictures, props, costumes, dioramas and peep-show mechanical scenes that recreate a world that never existed. Since its first public outing in May 2004 the Insect Circus Museum was a massive hit at Glastonbury Festival 2004 & 2005, the Edinburgh Festival (Spiegel Tent), The Big Chill and the 2005 Mayors Thames Festival. Events planned in 2006 include a spring tour of Germany with the Roncalli Circus and a two-month tour of the United States. With its combination of dance and physical theatre the Insect Circus is a variety performance that brings the Museum to life. Ten performers, including trapeze artists, a contortionist and a knife thrower, are featured in a show that has twelve acts linked by a ringmaster. All of the performers featured in the show worked with the Insect Circus Museum on tour in 2005. The Insect Circus website.
