The province of Hebei on the North China Plain, 190 miles south west of Beijing, is considered to be the home of acrobatics. It was more than two thousand years ago that the Chinese saw the first acrobats, magicians and jugglers. During the long winter months the Chinese farmers and village craftsmen spent their time becoming acrobats. Every year the village's peasants would celebrate a bountiful harvest by performing fun and exciting feats of daring, skill and strength. Building on the traditional performances, today's artists follow an unbroken tradition since 700 BC.
