Jason Kravits - Off the Top! archiveTV and Broadway veteran, Jason Kravits (Halston, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Friends, The Drowsy Chaperone), reinvents the musical cabaret... by making it all up on the spot! In a true collaboration with the audience, every detail of the show, including his character's name, birthplace, triumphs, tragedies... his whole life story... as well as the melody AND lyrics to every song, are based on the suggestions provided by the audience. Once Jason takes the stage, the improv and music start immediately. Regularly pulling suggestions from a fishbowl, he takes us through the life story of "the most famous cabaret singer you've never heard of." Moving from song style to song style, Jason hits all the tropes of a typical musical cabaret... the flashback story, the recently-discovered song from the famous composer, the jazz standard, the casually dropped name, the fall from grace only to rise in triumph, the eleven o'clock number... they're all in there. And they all sound kinda familiar. Even though everyone in the room... the performer, the band and the audience...is hearing these stories and songs for the first (and only) time.
