As in the 'straight' theatre the 1950s were a changing decade for British musicals. The morning session will be a panel discussing musical theatre through the 1950s to the 1960s including Julian Slade and Elizabeth Seal. In the afternoon Stewart Nicholls will work with professional singers exploring some of the changing music of 1950s British musicals. Stewart Nicholls directed Over My Shoulder (Jermyn Street and Wyndhams Theatre) and Into Thin Air with Wayne Sleep (New Players). He has also directed the British Musical Revival Series of performances at the Theatre Museum (2000-2005).
