The Penguin Caf? s Arthur Jeffes brings his new solo piano project Sundog on tour. For Arthur, the solo piano is a way to explore his, sometimes, more romanticist-minimalist ideas outside the framework of the Penguin Caf? s older and more established sensibility. Very much taking Philip Glass, Wim Mertens and Simon Jeffes work into account - Arthur has been working since then on an idea of transparent and generous music that can be both intellectually satisfying and at the same time deeply touching. This is music which, because of its origin, can work happily under any number of names ? be it classical, minimalism, chamber, electronica or film music. The last track on the new Penguin Caf? album Coriolis was the first time Jeffes had recorded something in this vein. Playing violin on the track with him was Oli Langford who will also be playing on this tour.
