Epidemic archiveMarlon is a young man with a problem, finding it hard to get the help he needs from a system he doesn't trust. He decides to get away, hops into the nearest vehicle and drives off. When he finds there are two people sat in the back seat who share his feelings of isolation, a simple journey to see the sea turns into a popular crusade about health and happiness. As a media panic escalates, right to the heart of government, Marlon begins to wonder if he's gone too far or not far enough. Epidemic explores the way society treats illness and how the media can shift perceptions, for better and for worse. Based on an original concept by Steve Winter. In this extraordinarily ambitious community project on obesity and mental health, based on interviews with over 250 Londoners, Old Vic New Voices (OVNV) has assembled a company of over one hundred and twenty volunteers aged 16 to 60 from local communities across London, from first time performers to novice backstage and technical staff.
