Formed by internationally renowned tabla player Sarvar Sabri and his fellow musicians who are trained in a variety of musical traditions: south Asian, Latin American, jazz and western classical. The ensemble performs works that draw upon the dynamic and creative energy released when the Indian classical tradition meets those of Latin America and Europe. Using this rich heritage the group explores new sounds and techniques to create exciting world music. Exploring melodic and rhythmic influences from South Asian, Latin American and Jazz traditions, the Sabri Ensemble performs a new and specially commisioned score to the lavish film Shiraz. Shiraz is part of an extroardinary trilogy of films by German director Franz Osten about the story behind the creation of the Taj Mahal, the woman who inspired it and the two men who loved her.
