Things Can Only Get Better is the story of Lilian Sanderson a Labour MP elected for the first time on 1st May 1999 full of hope for the future. With her brother-in-law Simon, whom she persuades to stand for the National Executive, they plan to fight for socialism and the working class inside the Party. Gradually Lilian and Simon are enmeshed in the politicking, the spin and the messy compromises of parliamentary politics and their personal lives suddenly become the property of the Labour Party publicity machine. Lilian and Simon confront each other during the war in the former Yugoslavia.
