Damask Drum archiveThe Damask Drum is brought to life through movement. The tragic story of a caretaker/gardener who falls in love with a lawyer to whom he writes 101 love letters. Unmoved by mere words she sets him a challenge and the story draws to a close with heartbreaking consequences. He is a typical Mishima hero and his lines are simple and direct although his character is deeply complex. This adaptation retains the mysticism of Japanese Tales and yet the characters are universal. past and present; reality and illusion; life and death; all collide in a ghost world where they struggle to find the poetic in the mundane and love in the most unlikely of the places.
