Details
Based on the classic dramatic poem of the 14th Century
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, commissioned in 1988. The first revival of the 1999/2000 Season is Sir Harrison Birtwistle's
Gawain, winner of the Evening Standard Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera in 1991 and widely regarded as one of the finest contemporary music-theatre pieces. The libretto, of startling poetic beauty, is by David Harsent. John Tomlinson repeats his famous portrayal of the Green Knight, who arrives at Camelot on Christmas Eve with a bizarre challenge to King Arthur's knights. Sung in English
