Details
Through music of exceptional beauty, Schubert's Winterreise takes us inside the mind of a rejected lover who travels from the door of his beloved into a frozen landscape of snow-covered roads, hovering crows and deserted villages. Schubert's haunting song cycle, written in 1827-28, the year of his death is one of the masterpieces of the nineteenth century. In this acclaimed production, commissioned last year by New Kent Opera, the character of the love-sick poet wandering through the wintry landscape is taken by a puppet. Accompanied by fortepiano and guitar, the feelings of loss and grief are explored in songs of famous beauty and tenderness.
