Exhilarating classical dance, sumptuous sets and costumes and a thrilling score of some of Elgar's most beautiful music combine to produce yet another brilliant NBT production. Fate and the mysteries of the past lead the young orphan Pip to a new life as a city gentleman. From the memorable images of the escaped convict Magwitch to the dark solitude of Miss Havisham, this classic tale is steeped in revenge, deception and love undying and unrequited.

Great Expectations is true to the tradition forged by the company s late founder, [Christopher Gable]. Compressing Dicken s complicated storyline into two 45-minute acts produces some fairly manic tonal and scenic changes, especially in the first half. But fuzzy-edged as the storytelling is, [Stefano Giannetti] still hits the salient dramatic point.
