Creating Echoes productions presents Scream in Harmony - The hard hitting ?reality check' spoken-word drama about 11 very different women residing in an urban London social housing estate, all of whom find their lives ripped apart by personal tragedy. The drama begins with the death of local teenage boy Isiah who becomes a symbol for loss and metaphor for struggle throughout, linking all of the characters in some way and forces each woman to confront some uncomfortable truths... Scream in Harmony is the first part of a trilogy of perspectives plays, all of which explore the intricacies of gender based inter-relationships. An evocative intergenerational, rites of passage piece which examines some cultural and perhaps pathological themes which co-exist within female:female relationships. Connectedness and competition. Belonging and displacement. Territory and bonds. Sisterhood - Motherhood. Self-discovery and loss. Struggle and strength. As the piece unfolds it examines the ways in which women deal with adversity, tragedy and pain, yet continue to raise, support and nurture their families... and indeed smile. Importantly it asks quite a few fundamental questions: Do women have a natural predisposition for coping with pain? Do women have a greater innate capacity for resilience? Is there is something organic about the ways in which women display strength through adversity... and thus, do their screams become marginalised, overlooked and ultimately embedded in domesticity? Do cries somehow become muted and internalised? And while we may not hear those screams, if we look closely we may see something in her eyes...
