The Imagined Village - And An Tobar: Folk Double Bill archiveTAT-1 by Aidan O'Rourke starts with the loose theme of bringing the world closer together. This new piece is inspired by the first transatlantic telephone cable (TAT-1), which ran from Oban (Aidan's home town) on the west coast of Scotland to Newfoundland. For many years this cable carried the 'hotline' between Washington and Moscow. Composer Sheema Mukherjee's piece Bending The Dark is written from the point of view of a second generation immigrant tracing the path of the Indian diaspora across continents. The new piece is performed by The Imagined Village, a band that unites some of England's finest traditional musicians alongside leading figures on the UK Asian and alternative electronica music scene.
