Details
Set and written in urban São Paulo 1969 it tells the story of Victor, a lowly bank clerk. On the brink of insanity he kidnaps Hugo, a night cleaner separated by class and ethnicity and locks him in a room, forcing them both to confront the realities of their lives; power, money, desperation and sexual desire. Exiled for his involvement in the Brazilian left, the play takes direct inspiration from the playwright’s own experiences of the military dictatorship enforced at the time, in addition to the repression of his own homosexuality, experienced whilst studying to become a priest in his teens.
