Details
On Friday 13th September 1940, the cruise ship City of Benares set sail for Canada. Onboard were 90 evacuees escaping the relentless bombing and dangers of war torn Britain. Four days into the crossing, the ship was torpedoed and sank. Only seven of the evacuees survived. Two girls, Bess Walder and Beth Cumming, spent 19 terrifying hours in the water on an upturned lifeboat. They willed each other to survive. Lifeboat is inspired by the true story of their friendship, courage and the twist of fate that allowed them to live to tell their tale. Recommended for age 10+
