The audience enters a quiet, dark space, festooned with props, strange instruments and assorted bric-a-brac. They sit down, put on a blindfold and relax, as three brand new stories ? written purely for the voice and accompanied by live sound effects, aromas and music ? unfold around the auditorium. Blackout is set in the past, the present and the future, and is performed by unseen actors, foley artists (making sound effects) and musicians, including participants from Engage's recent Acting for Radio course ENGAGE is the Theatre Royal's programme of participatory and other activities for adults. As well as offering the opportunity to get involved in performances with a new TheatreSchool for Adults (two groups for ages 18-24, and age 25+) from September, Engage will be running a new TRB Community Choir, led by the a cappella vocal group, The Eko Trio.
